Union Berlin are reportedly about to shed themselves of Norwegian central midfielder Morten Thorsby. Signed last summer for a transfer fee of approximately €3 million, the 27-year-old is apparently headed back to the Serie A on loan. The 17-times-capped international joined Union from Sampdoria and will now return to Italy to play for CFC Genoa 1893.
Thorsby made 34 appearances for Union across all competitions last year. He picked up two scorer points (one goal and one assist) amid 24 league deployments. While he remains under contract with his German club through 2026, the new loan arrangement is apparently designed for an offload. Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio reports on an obligatory purchase clause if the Italian side manage to remain in the league.
Germany’s Kicker Magazine confirms that Thorsby has left Union’s camp to complete the move. Di Marzio and his staff of writers furnish the rest of the details in an article published on the Italian transfer guru’s website.
