Union have interest in Hertha’s Ngankam

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that 1. FC Union Berlin are interested in keeping Berlin native Jessic Ngankam playing top-tier football in the country’s capital. 

With Hertha BSC’s relegation from the German top flight looking more certain, Berlin’s Charlottenburg side will surely be set to liquidate most of their high-value assets this summer. Berlin-born Jessic Ngankam – a regular fixture for the the Germany U21 national team – will likely be one among many looking for a new club.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that the capital city’s Köpenick side are interested in bringing the 22-year-old to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. The player himself would surely be tempted by the chance to not only remain in the top flight, but also play European club tournament football.

Plettenberg nevertheless reports that the Hertha administrative team do not wish to let the €3.5 million valued player go for less than €10 million. Such a price tag may be too rich for the blood of the FCU front office given Ngankam’s history of injuries.

Hertha themselves recently spent €2 million to buy Ngankam back after his 2021/22 loan club SpVgg Greuther Fürth exercised a purchase option on him last spring. The striker’s current contract with “die alte Dame” runs through 2025.
