Bayern Munich have today been fined €40,000 by the UEFA Disciplinary Committee for the use of prohibited fireworks and pyrotechnics and the throwing of objects at Champions League games, but in particular their away match at the Parken Stadium against Copenhagen.
UEFA have also handed Bayern Munich a ban from purchasing tickets for away fans for their next match in UEFA competitions, but this is suspended for two years, until October 2025 – the date of the hearing.
As a result of the action taken by UEFA, Bayern Munich have made an appeal to fans.
“FC Bayern is making an urgent appeal to all Bayern fans to refrain from using pyrotechnics in the stadium in future and to desist from any further misconduct, as all travelling (away) Bayern fans would be affected by the consequences. The verdict and the resulting consequences will therefore also be placed on the agenda of the next meeting of the fan dialogue working group and will be discussed in the formal dialogue between FC Bayern and the club’s supporters.”
Should a repeat offence occur, then there’s also the possibility that Bayern Munich may have to play behind closed doors.
Thomas Tuchel’s side face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening. The Rekordmeister have already qualified for the Champions League knockout stages but after their heavy 5-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday afternoon, Tuchel has called for a reaction from his players.
