Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Manuel Neuer will make his long-awaited comeback from injury against Darmstadt in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
After fighting his way back from a broken leg suffered in December, Neuer is ready to reclaim his position as Bayern’s starting goalkeeper from Sven Ulreich.
“If nothing happens in training, he’ll play. He’s looking forward to it, we’re looking forward to it and there are probably a few more looking forward to it. I can feel his anticipation, his class. It’s a special situation for him, it’s new. But he can be proud of himself and he should enjoy it. That makes him strong,” Tuchel told reporters.
“Some nervousness is normal. But I’m sure he’ll get into the rhythm quickly. We don’t want to exaggerate, but we are all very happy and proud of him. It’s a great story that can’t be taken for granted.”
“I am very confident that he will get back to top form quickly. I don’t feel that he is tense. At the moment he’s more excited about what he’s achieved. It’s a whole new level of goalkeeping that I’m seeing in training right now. He’s in a league of his own.”
