The international break is over, and the Bundesliga returns on Friday night with a match between FC Köln and Bayern Munich.

At his pre-match press conference, Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel was very critical of the fact that the Friday night fixture leaves some of his international players with very little time to return and prepare.

“It’s probably because of the TV rights. This is the second time we’ve played on a Friday. Min-Jae Kim and Alphonso Davies are just getting back from their travels today. It’s a very, very unfortunate schedule. Especially from a sporting point of view,” Tuchel told reporters, adding:

“If I say that as a coach, it’s immediately seen as an excuse. I don’t want to make excuses. It’s just an extremely unfortunate situation for the teams that have a lot of international players. We have to adapt. We’ve decided to arrive at short notice on Friday morning so the players can sleep at home. We want to win and that’s how we’ll prepare.”

Tuchel went on to give an injury update, ruling Matthijs de Light and Jamal Musiala out of the game and labeling Raphael Guerreiro a doubt.

“Matthijs de Ligt is out, Jamal Musiala is out, we have to be careful with Raphael Guerreiro. He’s had some problems, so we’ll see. We’ll keep a close eye on the international players who have had a heavy workload, like Konrad Laimer, Minjae Kim or Alphonso Davies. We will decide late on who will play tomorrow,” said Tuchel.
