Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for former Manchester United man Jesse Lingard this summer if the midfielder can’t agree a deal with West Ham United, according to Pete O’Rourke.
The 29-year-old is now a free agent after his deal at United expired this summer, meaning he is free to negotiate with any club that comes in for him.

What’s the latest on Lingard?
According to ESPN, Lingard is travelling to the United States this summer to listen to MLS sides who are interested in signing him this summer, as the midfielder ponders his next move.
The same report also suggests that West Ham and Everton are interested in the services of the £16.2m-rated man.
Lingard had spent the latter half of the 2020/21 season on loan at the London Stadium, with the 5 foot 9 attacking midfielder impressing during his short time with the Irons, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in just 16 games according to Transfermarkt.
Meanwhile, the Telegraph have reported that Spurs are interested in bringing Lingard to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in an attempt to improve their home-grown quota.
And O’Rourke believes that there’s a good chance that Lingard could snub his former loan club for a chance at Champions League football under Antonio Conte.
What has O’Rourke said about Lingard?
He told GIVEMESPORT: “West Ham obviously will probably offer him more of a guarantee of regular first team football.
“That probably couldn’t be guaranteed at Tottenham right now under Antonio Conte with the quality of the squad he’s now got at his disposal.
“But Champions League football is on offer at Tottenham and West Ham can only offer Europa Conference League football so that might be a big decision in where Jesse Lingard does end up moving this summer.
“I still think Tottenham will be thinking if West Ham can’t agree a deal with Lingard, then they might make a move for him.”
Will Lingard join Spurs?
There is a good chance that Lingard may prefer a move to Conte’s side this transfer window, having already snubbed West Ham during last year’s summer transfer window despite reportedly rejecting a contract offer from United, only for the player to act as a substitute for the majority of the campaign.
In fact Lingard, who has scored 56 senior goals in his career, only played in 548 minutes of football for the Red Devils last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist during that time according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that the midfielder may need regular minutes to get back up to full speed.
Though the 29-year-old might not be the most glamorous signing for Spurs, if Lingard was to sign on a free, it would almost be a failsafe signing with the midfielder improving the club’s home-grown quota, as well as providing useful squad depth as the club look to balance Premier League and Champions League football this season.
