Tottenham join Newcastle in race for Palace defender Andersen

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined Newcastle United in the transfer race for Crystal Palace star Joachim Andersen.

The 27-year-old earned accolades for his impressive displays last season. He formed a solid partnership with Marc Guehi in central defence, helping the Eagles secure an 11th-place finish in the Premier League standings.

The Danish footballer started 32 games in the English top-flight, with a goal to his name.

Newcastle have been impressed with his performances and they could make a move for him this summer.

However, the Magpies now face competition as Tottenham have also joined them in the transfer race, as per The Sun.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is said to be an admirer of Andersen who has thrived in the Premier league since coming to England in 2020.

Last season, he averaged 1.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 5.8 clearances per game in the English top-flight. He also completed 6.3 long balls and boasted almost 80 percent passing accuracy.

The Lilywhites conceded an incredible 63 goals during the 2022-23 campaign as they ended up eighth in the league table.

Postecoglou wants to bring in quality players this summer and believe Andersen to be a perfect fit.

However, the North Londoners may have to spend a hefty sum to secure his services as Palace are understood to demand around £50 million to let him leave.

The 2023 English transfer window has already seen Tottenham signing James Maddison from Leicester City and Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli.
