As reported by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, there’s now a total agreement between West Ham and Ajax for the transfer of Mexican international Edson Álvarez.
Once a target for Borussia Dortmund, Álvarez will join Premier League side West Ham, as a replacement for Declan Rice, for a reported €34m including bonuses.
The 25-year-old will sign a contract until at least 2028 and is expected to fly to London tomorrow where he will undergo a medical before signing a contract.
Álvarez, who has been at Ajax since 2019, will become West Ham’s first summer signing.
At one point, Álvarez did have a verbal agreement with Borussia Dortmund but the Bundesliga club pulled out of a deal to sign the Mexican midfielder because they were unable to find an agreement with Ajax. BVB also ended their pursuit following the contract extension of Emre Can, before Edin Terzić appointed the German as captain after Marco Reus stepped down for the role.
