Timo Werner set to join Tottenham on loan

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly on the verge of signing RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner on a short loan, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The German forward is nearing a return to the Premier League after his stint at Chelsea between 2020 and 2022.

Werner has struggled for game time this term following the addition of Lois Openda over the summer and is looking for game time elsewhere.

He was linked with a move to Manchester United, but Spurs are now on the verge of completing a six-month loan deal for the 27-year-old striker.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou made it clear that he wanted reinforcement. He also stated that the new players must come in early after injuries and continental tournaments sidelined key players.

The club has been swift in the early days, swooping for Werner, who will likely deputise for Heung-min Son following his departure for the Asian Cup.

Son has netted 12 goals and created 11 big chances for Spurs in 20 league appearances this term. He will be a massive miss.

Spurs will hope that Werner can help ease the scoring burden. He will hope to find a connection with Richarlison to keep Tottenham in the running for the top four.

However, his scoring record does not look encouraging enough, especially considering the burden he has to bear. Werner has only scored two Bundesliga goals this season. Last season, he only managed nine, missing 13 big chances.

He will have to step up his game under Postecoglou to become a key cog in this exciting Spurs side in the coming weeks.

In parallel news, Tottenham have reportedly made new contact for Genoa defender Radu Dragusin.

The North Londoners have been pushing to sign him but face sturdy competition from Serie A champions Napoli. Despite the competition, the Premier League club is winning the transfer race at the moment.
