Bo Svensson’s job as Mainz coach is in serious doubt after another disappointing performance and result on Wednesday night.

Sitting at the bottom of the Bundesliga with three points and no wins after nine games, Die Nullfünfer crashed out of the DFB-Pokal last night with a 3-0 defeat at 2. Bundesliga side Hertha BSC.

Speaking after the match, Mainz sporting director Martin Schmidt refused to guarantee that Svensson would still be in charge when Mainz face RB Leipzig in the league this weekend.

“We have to analyze this very carefully. Bo will be on the bench against Leipzig on Saturday if this analysis goes in the right direction. You can’t ask me to say yes or no now,” Schmidt was quoted as saying by DPA.

“Of course we want to continue with Bo. But we are not going to sugarcoat a game like this.”

According to the sporting director, however, the “togetherness” between team and coach is still intact.

“You can hear that from the team. The team wants to make it with Bo. But there’s stagnation in all areas,” Schmidt said.
