Sky Germany and Kicker both report that Sven Michel is set to join Augsburg from Union Berlin, this will be Augsburg’s third signing of the summer after Finn Dahmen and Patric Pfeiffer joined on free transfers.
Michel is set to sign a two-year contract at the club and join for €950k, final details between the two parties still need to be agreed upon. While the 32-year-old still needs to undergo his medical at Augsburg.
The striker is seen as a player that will complement the existing striker options at the club, Ermedin Demirovic, Dion Beljo and Mergim Berisha. The future of Berisha is still unknown as Augsburg will sell the 25-year-old if they receive a suitable offer.
Bochum were also interested in Michel, according to Bild. The 32-year-old would have been used as one of their main striking options next to Philipp Hofmann. However, they could not get the deal to work.
Michel was mainly used as an option off of the bench during his year-and-a-half stay in the capital. With the arrival of Mikkel Kaufmann at Union Berlin, Michel was likely pushed further down the striking pecking order.
