According to Foot Mercato, Sunderland have contacted Yann M’Vila’s (33) agents regarding a free transfer. The Frenchman has been a free agent since the expiry of his contract with Olympiacos at the end of last season.
M’Vila is stepping up his attempts to find a new club, multiplying his media appearances and seeking to ally clubs’ fears over the financial aspects of any prospective deal. The Frenchman has alluded to a return to Ligue 1, notably citing Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais as two clubs he could see himself playing for.
However, M’Vila has never hidden his affection for Sunderland, and he has revealed that he would be willing to make exceptions to join the Black Cats. “I don’t need the money, I just want to play, but not in Ligue 2, or in lower divisions, apart from Sunderland, in order to help them get back to the Premier League. I had an extraordinary year there,” he told Le Progrès.
Having played 40 times for Sunderland, M’Vila is now open to a return. Having shown interest in singing the French midfielder back in the summer, Sunderland have renewed contact with the player’s agent with the view to signing him this month, as per a report from Foot Mercato. The Championship club have made M’Vila a priority signing.
