Milan boss Stefano Pioli has spoken about the club’s loss to Atalanta, stating that the side was naive in conceding the goals in the game.
The Rossoneri fell to a 3-2 loss to La Dea and the hammer blow came very late. Davide Calabria was sent off in stoppage time but minutes later, substitute Luis Muriel came up with a winner with just one minute to go to seal a huge win for La Dea.
Atalanta had taken the lead twice, with Ademola Lookman grabbing a brace. Olivier Giroud had equalised in stoppage time of the first half, with Luka Jovic equalising to make it 2-2 in the second half.
After the game, Pioli was asked (via TMW) about the goals conceded and he said: “There are absences, but we played the match better than our opponents in the first half. Certain naiveties weigh on us, we will have to improve in the next matches.”
He was asked about the first two goals that his side conceded and he said: “When you concede three goals, we didn’t work well as a team in the defensive phase. We weren’t astute in creating openings. We restarted the match with intensity and quality, we had to bring home a positive result and we leave with a heavy defeat.”
Milan’s league form hasn’t been convincing enough this season and they will have to beat Newcastle United in the next game to have any chance of staying in Europe.
