Spain midfielder Rodri spoke to Teledeporte after La Roja’s 2-0 win over Scotland on Thursday.
“We knew the level of our opponents, they are very tough, the way they work. They are very well organised and that’s why they are in first place. We were patient. It’s a game that if you concede, it becomes very difficult and we knew that as the minutes went by, and that spaces were going to appear.
“I wanted to explain my [previous] words on Scotland. I always respect the way a team plays. If they are in first place it’s for a reason. It’s just that it’s against the spirit of football to waste time provoking the opposition, but it wasn’t against the way they play.
“Today was the most important match… it takes us closer to the Euros but we still have to finish it off. We are playing against a very good team next, with Erling [Haaland]. We’re going for it on Sunday.”
