Spain captain wants Barcelona star to be part of coaching staff at Euros

Spanish national team captain Álvaro Morata has admitted that, if the choice was his, he would invite a headline member of Barcelona’s midfield ranks to link up with the country’s staff for the upcoming European Championships.

The player in question? Gavi.

Midfielder Gavi, of course, is set to watch on from home this summer, as his fellow countrymen battle it out for the Euro 2024 title.

As much comes with the youngster in the midst of a lengthy spell on the sidelines, owing to an ACL tear suffered whilst lining out for Spain late last year.

Despite still being just 19, Gavi’s presence has been sorely missed by Barcelona, with his drive and never-say-die attitude having long represented a key factor in the Blaugrana’s midfield ranks.

And, as alluded to above, if the latest comments on the part of Álvaro Morata are anything to go by, the starlet evidently boasts a similarly significant reputation at international level.

Speaking to the media after linking up with Luis de la Fuente’s Spanish squad this week, La Roja captain Morata admitted that he would love nothing more than to have Gavi ‘as part of the staff’ in Germany this summer:

“Everyone in the National team loves Gavi. If it were up to me, I would invite him to the Euros as part of the staff. But I am not the one who decides.”
