Southampton’s Mohammed Salisu closing in on Monaco move

Having been one of two centre-backs Monaco were targeting from the other side of the Channel, Mohammed Salisu is now set to complete his move to the Principality club, according to a report from L’Équipe tonight.

Talks between the Ligue 1 club and the Championship side are said to have been advancing positively, with the transfer potentially concluded as early as next week. The Athletic go even further and indicate that an agreement has been reached between the two teams, with personal terms already ironed out and a medical scheduled for next week.

The 24-year-old Ghanaian defender is under contract with the Saints until the end of next season, having joined back in 2020 from Real Valladolid. He had made 22 appearances in the Premier League this past season – although he did not feature from March onwards – as Southampton were relegated to the Championship. A move to Fulham was also on the cards, before the Cottagers tourned their attention to other targets.
