As we enter the fifth week of the 2026/27 NFL season, talk of who will be named this year’s MVP is already heating up.
Kenneth Walker III was named the Super Bowl MVP last season following his spectacular display for the Seattle Seahawks. He has since signed for the Kansas City Chiefs in a lucrative deal.
Walker is looking to become the fourth player to win back-to-back Super Bowl MVP awards. The only current player to have achieved this feat is Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes.
NFL expert Skip Bayless has revealed his current top three frontrunners for this year’s MVP, and the legendary quarterback does make the list, albeit in third position.
Skip Bayliss’ Top 3 MVP Contenders Right Now
Firstly, he named his third placed man.
“Patrick Mahomes is third for me. He’s having a great year, but obviously he now has a great running back in Kenneth Walker III, and I’m feeling that K9 is going to start stealing some MVP votes from Patrick Mahomes.”
Mahomes has bounced back brilliantly from a couple of disappointing campaigns following his back-to-back MVP awards, but still has more work to do to place himself in with a better chance.
Bayless placed Josh Allen in second place. The Bills quarterback was named MVP in 2024 for the regular season and is looking to go one better and be the Super Bowl’s MVP this year.
As for first place, Bayless named Brock Purdy as his favourite right now.
“Right now, I am giving Brock Purdy the edge for MVP because it’s feeling like it’s just his turn. He just keeps making plays for a 49ers team that just keeps suffering key injuries.”
Purdy has played a pivotal role in the 49ers’ 4-0 record this season. He was once selected as the final pick of the draft back in 2022, being that year’s ‘Mr. Irrelevant’. Despite that, he became one of the few exceptions to not be released before the regular season began.
Since then, he has progressed massively and was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month during the current season.
