Poland head coach Michal Probierz has this evening provided an insight into the struggles being endured by star frontman Robert Lewandowski at Barcelona.
The subject of hitman Lewandowski’s form has of course long represented a headline talking point in Catalunya’s capital.
This comes amid what has proven a largely underwhelming campaign all told on the part of the Polish international.
Singled out for regular criticism on the part of the Barcelona faithful for not only his goalscoring efforts, but all-round contribution to Xavi’s side, speculation has even begun to mount that the 35-year-old could be moved on come the summer.
Speaking in an interview with the nation’s official website on Tuesday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his long-time talisman’s situation at club level was put to the aforementioned Michal Probierz.
And the Poland boss was not at all shy in launching a staunch defence of Lewandowski.
Adamant that the former Bayern Munich striker is no more to blame for Barcelona’s struggles than any of his teammates, Probierz explained:
“I do not agree with the criticism directed at Robert Lewandowski. I would understand the fans’ criticism if they said that FC Barcelona played well and he played badly, but the whole team is playing badly and Robert finds it very difficult to find a way to solve it.
“You can see that he does everything possible to do his best, but there aren’t many opportunities, and even if he himself creates dangerous actions, someone doesn’t take advantage of it. Barça’s situation frustrates him enormously.”
He concluded:
“I have the impression that Robert’s perception through the prism of what is happening at Barcelona is too negative. It is going in the wrong direction.”
