Shoulder injury to keep Kimmich sidelined through weekend

Germany’s main sporting tabloid is currently reporting that the shoulder contusion that kept midfielder Joshua Kimmich out of action this weekend will most likely sideline the FCB linchpin through next Saturday’s game against Gladbach. 

It appears as if FC Bayern München will have to do without Joshua Kimmich for a little while longer. The shoulder injury that saw the 28-year-old subbed off late in last Wednesday’s 1-0 win over 1. FC Union Berlin will, according to Germany’s “Sport Bild” tabloid, keep Kimmich out of this coming weekend’s encounter against Gladbach. The paper cites its own sources to claim this. Kimmich is not partaking in training whilst his arm rests in a sling.

Kimmich’s replacement in midfield – young Serbian midfield prospect Aleksandr Pavlovic – scored his inaugural Bundesliga goal in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Augsburg. The 19-year-old has also pocketed two league assists this year. Bayern remain undefeated on the eight occasions Pavlovic has made an appearance. The youngster’s performance in his second league start on match-day 15 left many wondering if a regular role might be coming soon.

In any event, it looks to be questionable if Kimmich might be available in time to face league-leaders Bayer 04 Leverkusen in a massive league encounter less than two weeks away. A shoulder contusion can easily sideline a football player for three weeks or more. Outgoing transfer links and recent media statements have left Kimmich developing something of a “problem child” reputation.
