Amid interest from 1. FC Kaiserslautern and DSC Arminia Bielefeld, Schalke central midfielder Florian Flick has opted to play for 1. FC Nürnberg for the rest of the 2022/23 campaign. This was initially reported by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg and later confirmed by Kicker magazine journalist Chris Biechele.
The 22-year-old will be headed to Middle Franconia to assist the FCN in the 2. Bundesliga relegation race. Bavaria’s “Altmeister” currently sit in 11th place in the table, yet only two points clear of the drop zone. Nürnberg are currently attempting to achieve a turnaround under former FC Augsburg trainer Markus Weinzierl, whom it is reported lobbied heavily to bring Flick in.

Flick is seen as the ideal replacement for the departed German youth international Tom Krauß, actually currently representing Schalke on loan from Leipzig. Krauß essentially took Flick’s place in the Schalke midfield this year after making 27 2. Bundesliga appearances last season during the S04 promotion campaign.

The sources all report that the Flick’s loan will last for only six months and that no purchase option is included.
