The Champions League

Sandro Tonali lambasts the refereeing decision after 2-0 defeat to Chelsea

Milan hosted Chelsea in a Champions League game on Tuesday evening. However, the Rossoneri enthusiasts saw the excitement of a home tie getting marred following a controversial penalty decision and the red card that resulted in Fikayo Tomori being dismissed only 18 minutes into the game.

Speaking to the mics of Mediaset after the match, Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali took a swipe at the referee Daniel Siebert, saying that he wouldn’t have even awarded the penalty if he had been the referee. As quoted by Alfredo Pedullà, Tonali said:

“We started very well, then we had that problem that the referee created for us. A penalty like that before the 20 minutes and a red card in the Champions League seems a bit exaggerated to me. If I had been the referee I wouldn’t have even given a penalty. But in this match, this referee came up with seven fouls and four cards in the first half alone, but we can’t choose him. He sent him (Tomori) off, and it was a disaster, And in eleven against ten, it was difficult. We put our hearts into it along with the 70,000 people tonight.”
