In the absence of Thomas Müller and Joshua Kimmich for Bayern Munich’s Champions League game against Viktoria Plzeň on Tuesday night, BILD are reporting that both Ryan Gravenberch and Mathys Tel could start.
Müller and Kimmich both tested positive for Covid-19 after featuring in Bayern’s 4-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Friday night. Per the report, Julian Nagelsmann planned a double-pivot of Leon Goretzka and Gravenberch in their final training session before tomorrow’s game.
Speaking about Goretzka ahead of Tuesday’s game, Nagelsmann said: “We have to think about what position he plays in. Whether he replaces Josh in the more defensive variant or as an eight, where his goal threat is more effective.”
On Gravenberch, who has admitted to his disappointment by his start to life in Munich, Nagelsmann added: “He has my confidence. He also knows exactly what he needs to fit perfectly into our style of play.”
Tel (17) is also set to be awarded a first Champions League start. The French youth international played 10 minutes against Barcelona and since joining from Rennes for €20m in summer, has scored two goals across all competitions for the Rekordmeister in 169 minutes.
In addition to Gravenberch and Tel, Sadio Mané (30), Jamal Musiala (19) and Serge Gnabry (27) are also expected to start.
