Roma considering purchase of Atalanta forward Luis Muriel as second striker

With the Giallorossi currently short on options within the front-line, Roma are considering the purchase of Atalanta forward Luis Muriel as a second striker.

Milan-based journal La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the capital club are monitoring the situation of the Colombian international as they are beginning to view the 32 year-old forward as a concrete option within the attack.

As it stands, Englishman Tammy Abraham is held at bay for a lengthy period after having suffered a torn ACL towards the end of last year’s campaign, leaving Mourinho with former Torino marksman Andrea Belotti as the sole available pure number nine within the squad.

With La Dea having recently sealed the acquisition of El Bilal Toure and with former Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca on the verge of signing with Atalanta from West Ham, Gasperini’s squad are keen on offloading Muriel as a result of frequent injuries and a lack of consistency in performances.

Consequently, Roma deem Muriel as an alternative signing to primary candidate Brazilian youngster Marcos Leonardo. Whilst talks with Santos for the promising starlet are currently moving at a slower pace than anticipated, the Giallorossi would be prepared to make a move for the Atalanta striker, whom has tallied three goals and three assists in 29 games-played within the Serie A last season.
