Yesterday, Bayern Munich finally confirmed the signing of Yann Sommer, who has arrived from Gladbach to replace the long-term injured Manuel Neuer.
Bild now reports that the German champions had a prominent alternative lined up in case the deal failed.
Per the German tabloid, Bayern had inquired about Kasper Schmeichel, who had signalled interest in a move from Nice to Allianz Arena.
However, Bayern ultimately managed to get a deal for Sommer over the line for a transfer fee of up to €9.5 million.
