Real Madrid are closely monitoring Joško Gvardiol, report Mundo Deportivo.
The 20-year-old was one of the revelations of the 2022 World Cup and was one of the most important players in the Croatia side that reached the semi-finals of the tournament.
It is believed that Real Madrid have been keeping an eye on Gvardiol even before the intentional break. According to Fabrizio Romano, Los Blancos have sent scouts to RB Leipzig’s matches to watch him play this past autumn.
While no formal approach has been made, the European champions are monitoring how the player’s situation is developing in Germany. He could potentially be Antonio Rüdiger’s or David Alaba’s long-term replacement, who will turn 30 and 31 respectively in 2023.
Chelsea are keen to bring Gvardiol to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window, but they would most likely have to pay a transfer fee in excess of €80m.
