RB Leipzig enter race for sought-after free agent Marcus Thuram

RB Leipzig have reportedly joined the likes of AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain in the pursuit of French striker Marcus Thuram.

Thuram is currently one of the most wanted free agents in the market after parting ways with Borussia Monchengladbach.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Leipzig are keen on the Frenchman’s services and have contacted his entourage to discuss a potential transfer.

Marco Rose’s side are on the lookout for a replacement for star forward Christopher Nkunku, who will be moving to Chelsea.

RC Lens striker Lois Openda has been earmarked as the priority target, but Leipzig are also now looking at a free deal for Thuram.

The 25-year-old turned the heads of top European clubs following an impressive 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign individually, albeit Gladbach’s overall decline.

Thuram’s representatives have made it clear to Leipzig that they want €10 million as a signing fee.

Leipzig have been locked in negotiations with Lens for Openda after reportedly receiving the green light over personal terms.

However, the Ligue 1 runners-up are demanding a fee of €45 million, while the Saxony-based club have tabled an offer worth €30m plus €5m in bonuses.

Leipzig have also seen their offer for Fabio Carvalho turned down by Liverpool.

The DFB Pokal winners have recently approached Manchester City regarding a loan move for Cole Palmer.

As for Thuram, Leipzig manager Rose knows him from his time with the Foals.

A move abroad looks more likely, with Milan and PSG battling out for his signature.

PSG have identified Thuram as a top attacking reinforcement should Kylian Mbappe follow Lionel Messi to the exit doors.

On the other hand, Milan are looking to persuade the World Cup finalist by making him the central figure of the project.
