Rarely-seen £30m star ‘needs to leave’ Goodison Park

Everton defender Michael Keane has to leave Goodison Park, says journalist Paul Brown.

The 29-year-old defender has barely played for the Toffees this season and is now being linked with a move to West Ham.

What is the latest news involving Keane?

According to Football Insider, West Ham are interested in signing Keane when the transfer window opens in January.

The same outlet states that he could be available for as little as £10m, £20m less than what Everton paid Burnley for him (via BBC Sport) back in 2017.

The Merseyside club’s willingness to let Keane go in the new year comes as no huge surprise, with the centre-half not a regular right now.

He has made a couple of starts in the Carabao Cup this season but has seen very little action in the Premier League.

What has Brown said about Keane?

Brown thinks Keane now has to leave Everton as he continues to be overlooked by manager Frank Lampard.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “From Michael Keane’s point of view, it’s clear that he’s not going to get in the team any time soon. Even when Everton went to three at the back, Lampard preferred either [Seamus] Coleman or [Vitali] Mykolenko playing as one of the three rather than Keane. So I think from Michael Keane’s point of view, he needs a move.

“He needs to leave the club and find somewhere where he’s going to play because I think he’s too good, frankly, to sit on Everton’s bench all season. I think there are plenty of teams in the Premier League that he could move to and be a real success in.”

Can Keane win a spot in Everton’s starting XI?

It seems unlikely. Lampard has clearly settled on a central defensive partnership of James Tarkowski and Conor Coady, which is more than understandable given that they are both his signings.

Lampard also has Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey as centre-back options. When they are both fit, that is even more competition for Keane.

When you consider all of that, you cannot really see Keane getting into this Everton team. Therefore, the £30m defender probably should be looking to leave Goodison Park in January.

West Ham would be an interesting destination, though, as they currently have the likes of Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer, so getting into David Moyes’ side could be a real battle, too.
