Randal Kolo Muani likely to start over Olivier Giroud for France against The Netherlands

Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani (24) is tipped to start for Les Bleus against The Netherlands on Friday, according to a report from L’Équipe. France kick off their qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 against the Ronald Koeman-led Dutch side at the Stade de France. On Wednesday, France played a behind-closed-doors training game in their famed Clairefontaine training centre, and the Bondy-born player was the starting man upfront. Olivier Giroud only played the second half of the game, which may imply he will start on the bench against The Netherlands.

On Thursday, Les Bleus will train at the Stade de France. Didier Deschamps is also not expected to fully change the team that went on to play the 2022 World Cup final. With Hugo Lloris and Raphaël Varane no longer in the team after their international retirement, Mike Maignan and Ibrahima Konaté are in line to start against The Netherlands with Jules Koundé and Théo Hernandez playing as full-backs. Antoine Griezmann, now France’s vice-captain should retain his place as a box-to-box midfielder. Ousmane Dembélé’s absence can only mean that Kingsley Coman is the leading man to play on the right wing, with newly-chosen skipper Kylian Mbappé on the opposite side.
