PSG goalkeeper Sergio Rico remains in intensive care after horse riding accident

Two weeks on from a horse riding accident in which he suffered serious head injuries, Sergio Rico remains under sedation and in intensive care, as announced by the Seville hospital the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper was admitted to and reported by Le Parisien.

The 29-year-old was placed back into a coma at the end of last week, having previously been taken completely off sedation. The Virgen del Rocío hospital has indicated that Rico’s condition remains stable, but is still under sedation. The next update is expected on Wednesday morning.

The Spaniard was hospitalised the day after PSG secured the Ligue 1 title with a draw against Strasbourg, with the players having been given the next day off. He returned to Andalusia to undertake a pilgrimage in the village of El Rocío for Pentecost, where the accident took place, after which he was transported to hospital.

PSG’s final game of the league campaign notably saw several messages of support for the goalkeeper, from chanting and tifos in the Parc des Princes stands, to his teammates wearing his name on the back of their shirts during the first half. Club captain Marquinhos lifted the Ligue 1 trophy wearing Rico’s shirt, while a mass took place at the Madeleine church in Paris last Wednesday in his honour.
