Prince Albert II ‘attentive’ to profile of prospective AS Monaco buyer

As reported by Les Échos and confirmed by Get French Football News, Dmitry Rybolovlev is open to selling his 66% stake in AS Monaco. Prince Albert II has now told Monaco-Matin that he is “very attentive” to the potential sale.

“The majority shareholder of AS Monaco (the “Club”) has decided to commence a process to explore strategic alternatives for its stake in the Club after receiving unsolicited inbound interest. The majority shareholder has retained The Raine Group (“Raine”) to serve as its exclusive financial advisor on this matter. Raine has significant experience working with the world’s biggest football clubs on a range of assignments. There can be no assurances that the strategic review will result in any transaction involving the Club and we do not intend to make any further announcements regarding the strategic review at this time,” read a statement from Rybolovelv’s family office earlier this week.

‘Months’ needed to evaluate AS Monaco value

Whilst Rybolovlev could potentially sell his 66% stake in the club, Prince Albert II has said that the Monégasque state, which holds a 33% stake in the Principality club, are not looking to increase their stake in the club, but nor are they looking to decrease it.

Prince Albert II told Monaco-Matin that he is yet to talk directly to Rybolovlev concerning a sale, but he has spoken to his entourage. “We will certainly need a few months to have a good evaluation of the club’s value.” Monaco’s Prince added, “If there is a new shareholder, you need a certain profile, someone solid and respectable. We will be very attentive to this.” Prince Albert II also said that he had not been contacted by potential buyers regarding the sale of ASM.
