Predicted PSG XI v Lyon: Ligue 1 leaders look to extend advantage

Despite their middling form since the turn of the year, Paris Saint-Germain have a clear run towards a record-breaking eleventh Ligue 1 title – not least thanks to second-place Marseille’s numerous slip-ups. Their Classique rivals’ draw at home to Montpellier on Friday night means the league leaders can go eleven points clear, should they see off Lyon at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.

As opposed to the depleted squad that lost to Rennes before the international break, Christophe Galtier will have more options at his disposal this time round – notably, captain Marquinhos making his return after an intercostal tear, while Achraf Hakimi is also back in action. Sergio Ramos and Nordi Mukiele remain sidelined, meaning if Galtier is to stick to a five-man defence, 17-year-old El Chadaille Bitshiabu will be drafted in again.

In Neymar’s absence – the Brazilian is out for the season following ankle surgery – the Parisians will once again deploy a two-man attack, with newly-named France captain Kylian Mbappé partnering Lionel Messi. As for the midfield trio, RMC report that Renato Sanches could be given the nod ahead of Fabián Ruiz, in what would only be the Portuguese midfielder’s second start of the season.

PSG likely lineup v Lyon:

Gianluigi Donnarumma – Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Danilo Pereira, El Chadaille Bitshiabu, Nuno Mendes – Fabián Ruiz, Vitinha, Marco Verratti – Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé.
