Reigning DFB-Pokal champions RB Leipzig are through to the round of 16 of this year’s edition of the German cup after thrashing Hamburger SV 4-0 at the Red Bull Arena tonight.
Having worked his way back from a muscle injury, Yussuf Poulsen made his first start since May, and the experienced Danish striker seized his chance with two well-taken first half goals.
Mohamed Simakan and Emil Forsberg added to the scoreline in the second half, securing Leipzig a convincing win over Hamburger SV, who were coming off a painful 3-0 derby defeat against FC St. Pauli.
In the other early DFB-Pokal kickoffs tonight, Mainz, Eintracht Frankfurt and Nürnberg also booked their ticket to the next round at the expense of Lübeck, Mannheim and Stuttgarter Kickers.
