FC Schalke 04 have revealed that Edin Džeko had to go for treatment after suffering a deep laceration on his head on Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened during the home match against Mainz 05 at the Veltins Arena which ended 1-0 to the visitors.

Whilst dueling for a ball in the air in the second-half the Bosnia Herzegovina marksman clashed with a Mainz defender accidentally.

Almost instantly, the several-centimeter-long cut had to be stitched up with multiple sutures by team doctor Dr. Patrick Ingelfinger.

Džeko could no longer continue swiftly made way for Hwang Hee-chan. Now, his availability to face 1.FC Köln next weekend is unknown.

Going off VfB Stuttgart’s Maximilian Mittelstädt who suffered a similar cut against Paderborn, the full-back has since missed two games.
