AC Milan are handed a huge boost in the pursuit of Mehdi Taremi as FC Porto have reduced their valuation.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the Portuguese giants have reduced the asking price from €25 million to €20 million for the Iranian striker, whose contract expires in 12 months.
Taremi has emerged as a top target for Rossoneri, who are scouring the market for a centre-forward as a potential backup or competition for Olivier Giroud.
The retirement of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the poor form of Ante Rebic and Divock Origi have left Stefano Pioli devoid of options in the centre-forward position.
Taremi, 30, has been prolific for Porto over the years, establishing himself as one of the best players in the Portuguese top flight.
The Iranian international had a sensational 2022/23 campaign, netting 31 goals and 14 assists across all competition while placing himself among the elite strikers in Europe.
Especially his performances in the Champions League grabbed everyone’s attention. He scored against Bayer Leverkusen, Club Brugge and Atletico Madrid in the group stage and guided Porto to the knockout stages.
Taremi has also courted interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, but his priority is said to be continuing in Europe.
There is a potential stumbling block in the deal as AC Milan have only one non-European spot left with them, while players like Samuel Chakwueze and Daichi Kamada are also being targeted by the Italian giants.
Meanwhile, Christian Pulisic has completed his medical tests with Rossoneri, and an official announcement is only a matter of time.
Milan have also been continuously working on a deal for AZ Alkmaar midfielder Tijjani Reijnders. They are waiting for the Eredivisie club’s response after submitting an offer worth €23 million, including bonuses.
