Following Jon Jones’ victory over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 last November, the demand for a huge heavyweight unification title fight between ‘Bones’ and the division’s interim champion Tom Aspinall, was like nothing we have seen in the last few years for a fight in the UFC. Following Jones’ victory, he seemed to do a u-turn on not wanting to entertain a fight against the Brit which had fans delighted as it had the potential to be the biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history.
We are now over six months down the line from UFC 309, and although Jones didn’t take an ounce of damage against Miocic, it doesn’t seem like he is going to be getting back in the Octagon anytime soon and instead has been teasing that he is retired from the sport, but the UFC hasn’t yet stripped him of his heavyweight title. Jones’ petty activity and continous trolling on social media has made fans almost become tired of all talk of the heavyweight superfight, and they just want the division to move on as it is being held up by ‘Bones.’
On the 14th of May, a petition was launched to strip Jones of the unsidputed UFC heavyweight belt, and it has taken social media by storm, with over 100,000 fans worldwide signing the petition so far.

Petition to Strip Jon Jones of the UFC Heavyweight Title Has Surpassed 120,000 Signatures
Fans are doing everything they can to let the UFC know they are not happy
On the 14th of May, a petition was launched to have the UFC strip Jon Jones of his heavyweight title. Although it is extremely unlikely that the petition will have any impact on the current ongoing situation, fans are sick and tired of Jones’ antics and want to make their voices heard. Within just two weeks of the petition being launched, over 120,000 people have signed it from all around the world.
Reliable MMA journalist Ariel Helwani recently spoke about the petition on his show and at the time he was speaking about it, the petition was at just over 115,000 signatures, and in just the matter of hours, it has generated another 8,000 signatures.
Although it seems like Jones is holding the division up due to his reluctance to fight, Helwani is right, and if ‘Bones’ made it clear some time ago that he isn’t interested in fighting again, they should’ve stripped him and moved on, however, Dana White and UFC bosses seem determined to make the fight happen no matter what.
Daniel Cormier Claims Jon Jones is Scared of Getting KO’d by Tom Aspinall
Cormier believes his old rival couldn’t deal with an image of him being unsonscious in the UFC being out there
Jon Jones’ fiercest UFC rival is claiming that the reason why ‘Bones’ is so hesitant to take a fight against Tom Aspinall is because he doesn’t want to have an image out there of him knocked out inside the UFC Octagon. Daniel Cormier recently spoke about the heavyweight situation on his YouTube show with Ben Askren and expressed his belief that the threat which Aspinall poses could be striking fear into Jones.
Cormier said the following:
“You know what the big worry might be for him? With Aspinall, he could potentially get knocked out. Like legitimately knocked out and put on his back, and out cold. And I just don’t know that he wants to have that visual of him in the world. Because I’ve seen myself get beat, and I’m like ‘God that’s such a horrible visual’ every time.”
Although some people on social media are claiming that Cormier is biased against Jones due to their heated UFC rivalry many years ago, ‘Bones’ has been on record to say that he feels like if he does take a fight against the Brit Aspinall, it is essentially gambling his legacy. Whether the fight ends up getting made or not, it is very likely that this whole debacle will have an impact on fans’ opinions of Jones for many years to come despite him clearly being the MMA GOAT.
