Patrik Schick working on Bayer Leverkusen return

After learning that Patrik Schick (26) would not have to undergo surgery, Bayer Leverkusen remain confident that the Czech Republic forward will make his return in January as hoped.

According to BILD, Schick will continue his rehabilitation over the coming days after an adductor injury has kept the forward out since November – his last game was against Club Brugge on November 1.

“He works hard and intensively so that he’s not only healthy but also fit,” said Simon Rolfes. “He takes small steps forwards. We are counting on seeing what Patrik can do in the second-half of the season.”

Schick has been unable to replicate last season’s form, where he scored 24 goals in 27 Bundesliga games. This season, the Czech forward has scored just two in 11 league games. His performances last season helped guide B04 into third and a Champions League spot and was sought-after in the summer before opting to sign a contract extension until 2027, becoming the top earner in Leverkusen.

Down in 12th, Bayer Leverkusen and Gerardo Seoane parted ways before appointing Xabi Alonso, who has picked up 13 points from his first seven games, winning four of them.
