Former FC Bayern Campus man Leopold Zingerle is on the verge of joining RB Leipzig on a free, according to Germany’s preeminent footballing publication. Kicker Magazine confirms reports emerging in Germany’s associated press (Deutsche-Presse-Agentur) and the local “Leipziger Volkszeitung” that the 29-year-old will sign on to serve was the club’s new #3 for next year.
Norwegian net-minder Ørjan Nyland – signed as a free-agent earlier this autumn – will play no further role for the German Red Bulls. Zingerle is thus the presumed third string backstop behind currently injured Peter Gulacsi and current starter Janis Blaswich. Zingerle himself has 28 top-flight appearances to his credit whilst tending goal for Paderborn during the 2019/20 Bundesliga campaign.
The Munich-native recently lost his starting spot in East Westphalia to Jannik Huth. He’s made over 130 appearances for Paderborn since 2017. Zingerler once represented Germany at youth level and was the starting keeper for FC Bayern II at the beginning of his career.
