Ousmane Dembélé asks Barcelona for permission to speak to PSG

Following this weekend’s reports that Paris Saint-Germain had stepped up their efforts to bring in Ousmane Dembélé, L’Équipe are reporting this afternoon that the French international has asked Barcelona for permission to negotiate with the Ligue 1 champions.

The former Rennes and Borussia Dortmund man’s €50m release clause expires at midnight tonight, after which the fee needed to sign him will double. L’Équipe indicate that the player’s representatives and PSG have agreed on the outlines of a deal that will cover four to five years.

The winger, who has been with the Blaugrana for the last six seasons, is interested in the move and has asked the La Liga champions for permission to speak with PSG. Part of the process by which the release clause is triggered involves the World Cup winner himself notifying his club that he intends to activate it. However, Dembélé himself reportedly wants the two teams to find a more conventional agreement – in any case, his return to Ligue 1 appears to be imminent.
