Borussia Mönchengladbach captain Jonas Omlin was self-critical after Doe Fohlen went down 0-3 at home to Freiburg on Saturday.
The fans at Borussia-Park were understandably unhappy as their team’s winless run in all competitions extended to five games on home soil. Die Fohlen have now won just one of their last 11 matches, and Omlin knows that’s not good enough.
“The performances and results of the last weeks and months were insufficient and not good enough. I understand that the mood of the fans has gone down,” Omlin said in a post-match interview.
The Swiss goalkeeper, making his comeback after a seven-month absence, could have done more to stop Michael Gregoritsch and Merlin Röhl from scoring Freiburg’s first two goals.
“We certainly expected things to be different. The team is going through a very difficult phase. The whole club is going through an upheaval. We’re not getting results and we need to change that as soon as possible,” the captain demanded.
The defeat leaves Gladbach in 13th place, eight points ahead of Mainz in the relegation playoff spot.
