Newly-promoted Bundesliga side Werder Bremen have today announced the extension of 29-year-old striker Niclas Füllkrug beyond 2023.
“I would love to take on some more responsibility next season,” said Füllkrug. “I think that in the season just after a promotion, it’s important for the lads who have already experienced the Bundesliga to lead the way and with this contract extension I’d like to do that in one way or another.”
Werder head coach Ole Werner added: “Niclas is a corner stone of our squad. He’s one of the most experienced in our young team and is able to lead the group from the front.”
Füllkrug scored 19 and created eight in 33 2. Bundesliga games for Werder Bremen last season, helping his side finish two points behind champions Schalke.
The former Hannover striker has plentiful experience in the Bundesliga, playing 94 games, scoring 28 goals and creating a further five.
