La Liga outfit Villarreal have this weekend been dealt a considerable blow on the personnel front.
This comes amid confirmation that a key member of the club’s first-team ranks has been condemned to a long-term spell on the sidelines.
The player in question? Ilias Akhomach.
Wide-man Akhomach was afforded his latest starting berth on Saturday, opening his account for the season en route to an eventual 3-0 victory over Deportivo Alavés.
Late in the first-half, however, disaster struck for the 20-year-old.
After going to ground clutching his knee, it quickly became clear that Akhomach had suffered a serious injury, stretchered from the field of play as a result.
And, as alluded to above, 24 hours on, the extent of as much has been confirmed.
As per a statement across Villarreal’s website and social media platforms:
‘The winger has suffered a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and a sprain of the internal lateral ligament in his right knee.’
