La Liga giants Real Madrid will this week be forced to bid farewell to two long-time members of the club’s first-team ranks.
The pair in question? Luka Modrić, and Lucas Vázquez.
Real Madrid of course marked their return to action late on Wednesday night, locking horns with French champions Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup.
Both midfielder Modrić, and full-back Vázquez, meanwhile, were introduced off the bench at MetLife Stadium.
Unfortunately for the departing pair, though, they could do little to prevent an eventual 4-0 drubbing, and resultant exit from the Club World Cup.
Wuth Real Madrid’s 2024/25 campaign having now officially come to an end, so too have the respective Blancos careers of Modrić and Vázquez.
Those behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu long made the call not to afford the veteran duo extensions to their expiring contracts.
In New Jersey on Wednesday evening, two of Los Blancos’ longest-serving players therefore pulled on the club’s famed colours for the very last time.
