Bayer Leverkusen have this morning announced the signing of Southampton’s Nathan Tella (24) for a reported €23m including bonuses. The Englishman completed his medical on Saturday, and has signed a five-year contract until 2028.
B04 reached an agreement with Southampton on Friday night to sign the versatile winger, who completes the club’s transfer business for the summer. Tella is Bayer Leverkusen’s eighth signing of the summer after Granit Xhaka, Alex Grimaldo, Jonas Hofmann, Victor Boniface, Arthur, Josip Stanisic and Matej Kovar.
With a base fee of a reported €20m, Tella is Bayer Leverkusen’s most expensive arrival of the summer. The former Arsenal youth academy product spent last season on loan at Burnley, scoring 17 goals for the then Championship club.
“We have gained a fast winger who can score, who brings experience with him but also has the potential to develop,” said Simon Rolfes. “Nathan gives our attack additional versatility and he will strengthen our team with his pace and quality on the pitch.”
Tella is the latest Englishman to make the switch from the Premier League following the likes of Jadon Sancho, Reiss Nelson, Ryan Sessegnon, and more recently Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane.
