Official | Roberto De Zerbi appointed Marseille manager

Olympique de Marseille have appointed former Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi as the club’s new manager. The Italian arrives on a three-year deal.

After burning through three managers last season, Marseille were looking to make a quick appointment this summer. Les Phocéens finished the season with interim manager Jean-Louis Gasset at the helm, however, there was no question of him remaining at the club and he even announced his retirement from management upon the conclusion of the Ligue 1 campaign.

Sergio Conceiçao became an early frontrunner for the vacant role at OM, however, with the move stalling, attention turned to De Zerbi, who was on the market following his departure from Brighton at the end of the season. The Italian is a long-term target for Marseille, who have made previous attempts to lure De Zerbi to the Vélodrome.

They have done so successfully this time. “I am very happy to sign for Olympique de Marseille,” reacted De Zerbi. “I can’t wait to sit on the bench at the Vélodrome, this time as manager of OM, and help the club get back where Marseille deserves.”
