Having left the Paris Saint-Germain youth team set-up this summer, 18-year-old midfielder Mahamadou Diawara has joined Lyon on a four-year contract, as announced by the club this afternoon.
L’Équipe had previously indicated that Diawara, who made 19 appearances for the youth team this season, had been offered a contract by Les Parisiens, but decided to move on instead. He was the subject of interest from clubs in Germany and Austria as well as clubs in France, L’Équipe added.
The midfielder was notably part of the PSG U19 that reached the final of the national league, before losing to Nantes, while he also turned out three times in the Youth League, on the European stage.
According to Le Progrès, Diawara is expected to initially join the reserve team – managed by Gueïda Fofana – but will no doubt get opportunities in the first team next season, in the same vein as another recent arrival in full-back Saël Kumbedi.
