Marseille attacking midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi (30) has officially joined Serie A side Genoa on loan, both clubs have announced. The 30-year-old Ukrainian international only played 23 games with Marseille, registering two goals and one assist, since his arrival last January. The signings of Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaïla Sarr as well as Amine Harit’s return from his season-ending ACL injury made Malinovskyi surplus to requirements at the Vélodrome.
Les Phocéens also now need to raise funds following their failure to qualify for the Champions League group stage. Marseille were eliminated by Panathinaikos on penalties last Tuesday in the third qualifying round.

According to L’Équipe, Malinovskyi’s loan move will be paid for by Genoa themselves. The deal also includes a €10m option to make the move permanent. The Ukrainian reportedly favoured a return to Atalanta, but Marseille did not enter into talks with La Dea. Serie A sides Monza and Bologna were also keen on landing the 30-year-old attacking midfielder. Genoa CFC will kick off their Serie A season today at home against Fiorentina.
