Marcel Sabitzer’s move from Bayern Munich to Borussia Dortmund came around quickly. The Austrian was linked at the weekend and 48 hours later, BVB had reached a total agreement with the Rekordmeister.
According to Kicker, Bayern Munich will receive a fee between €15m and €20m. Sabitzer has signed a four-year contract at the club that ties him to BVB until 2027. The Austrian completed his medical on Monday and will be a part of Dortmund’s squad that travel to the USA on Tuesday.
“Marcel is an experienced player who has been playing at the top international level for years,” said Sebastian Kehl. “He fits the profile that we were looking for exactly: a central midfielder who will strengthen us both defensively and offensively as a box-to-box player. Marcel is physically strong and also carries an immense goal threat.
“We’re convinced that he will also become an important pillar of our team thanks to his personality and will help us to be even more effective, especially in hard-fought matches.”
Nagelsmann joined Bayern Munich in 2021 when Julian Nagelsmann made the switch from RB Leipzig. Unable to assert himself as a key player, Sabitzer played 54 games across all competitions at Bayern Munich, but spent the last six months of the season on loan at Manchester United, playing under Erik ten Hag.
Sabitzer was originally set on a move to England or Italy, but Dortmund remained persistent on their efforts to sign the 29-year-old Austrian midfielder. He becomes Dortmund’s third signing this summer after Ramy Bensebaini and Felix Nmecha.
