Houssem Aouar’s free transfer from Lyon to Roma has been made official by the Serie A club this afternoon, with the 24-year-old having put pen to paper on a deal which runs until the end of the 2027/28 season.
The midfielder had announced his departure from Les Gones in a statement last week, in which he notably expressed regret in how the end of his time with his formative club had played out. He also indicated that he had initially sought to leave in 2020, with the club having received offers in the wake of his impressive performance in the Champions League Final 8 that summer.
Aouar, who recently switched sporting allegiances from France to Algeria, leaves his hometown club having made 233 appearances in all competitions, scoring 41 goals in total and assisting another 36 since making his debut in the team’s 2016/17 Europa League campaign.
The former French youth international was unveiled this Sunday with an interview in which he showed an impressive level of Italian while introducing himself to the Roma fans. He will wear the number 22 with the Giallorossi.
