Official | Hoffenheim sign Burnley’s Wout Weghorst on a season-long loan

Hoffenheim have announced the signing of Burnley striker Wout Weghorst on a season-long loan.

It is reported that Burnley will receive an undisclosed loan fee from the German side for the services of the Dutchman. Whether a permanent deal can be struck at the end of the loan will be dependent on Weghorst’s output, as TSG would have to agree on a fee with the English side as the 31-year-old is under contract with Burnley until 2025. 

Upon the confirmation of the signing, Hoffenheim managing director Alexander Rosen would remark: “I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I describe this transfer as remarkable and extraordinary. In any case, it is for us. The fact that a striker with this CV and these options has decided to join TSG Hoffenheim shows that this club also attracts well-known players.”

These comments are sparked by the recent loan that Weghorst made to Manchester United which saw the 31-year-old lift the EFL-Cup with the Red Devils last season. However, what may be more impressive for Hoffenheim is the form Weghorst has previously displayed in the Bundesliga.

During his spell will Wolfsburg, the Dutchman scored 59 goals in 118 Bundesliga games for the Wolves. If the physically imposing striker can rekindle his love affair with scoring goals in the Bundesliga, then TSG may have just found their route back up the Bundesliga table after a disappointing twelfth-place finish last season. 

“I had a few opportunities and I’ve been thinking a lot about my future over the past few weeks. Those in charge at TSG made an enormous effort for me and showed me a lot of appreciation. That impressed me a lot and it just feels right to be here now,” commented Weghorst on his return to Germany.
