Eintracht Frankfurt have announced the signing of Philipp Max on loan with an option to buy from PSV Eindhoven.
On the signing of Max, Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche said: “In Philipp Max we’re gaining an experienced defender, who gives us added versatility and flexibility for the many demands in the second half of the season. With his qualities and his character, he fits into our team perfectly and we’re glad that we have the option to keep him for longer.”
Max has previous Bundesliga experience having made 156 appearances for Augsburg between 2015 and 2020. The 29-year-old adds much-needed depth for Frankfurt as they continue to compete on three fronts this season in the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Pokal.
The previous natural left-back options were Christopher Lenz and Luca Pellegrini. Ansgar Knauff, a natural right footer, played in the left-back position in Frankfurt’s 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich at the weekend and has filled in throughout the season with some success.
The 29-year-old is set to immediately take part in training today meaning he could potentially make his debut for Frankfurt against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
